CONSIDERING SEMINARY

A few months back, My wife and I applied to be career missionaries with LCMS World Missions. I thought it might be a great way to get out and practice my faith as I have received it from the Holy Spirit. Matt. 28:19 tells us to go into the world and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This also would be a chance for me to determine if going to the seminary was where God was eventually leading me.

The last few weeks have made me consider that I should maybe go to seminary earlier than planned. I sent an email on Tuesday and by Thursday I had received my package of Seminary information and the application to the school. My wife says that she is behind me and that I should go for this. My biggest concern has been finances and housing. But those are things I need to give to the Lord to take care of and just go forward.

I ask for your prayers as I go forward. Petition the Lord as to his will for my life and that the direction he is pointing me to is one that I will be able to handle.

Peace in Christ
Scott

If the Lord is leading you, you will know and other people around you will also be discerning your call.

It is too bad that the synods don't provide more support for the students, especially those who are young.

My daughter and son-in-law are seminary students. My daughter's call was discerned by a pastor from a WHOLE different denomination! But it should have been more apparent to her. At age 26, she already has 10 years of various ministry experience, youth outreach, camp ministry, vacation traveler ministry. The Lord was leading her toward seminary and she didn't even see it until someone else pointed this out to her 4 years ago.

May I ask what seminary she is attending?

scott were you at the Liturgy workshop at Glory of Christ in Plymouth MN. If you were I believe we had lunch together. I did not realise you were the same Scott whos blog I had been reading. Also p. softly your daughter should take a look at 1 Corinthians 14:33-38

33 For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, 34 the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says. 35 If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. 36 Or was it from you that the word of God came? Or are you the only ones it has reached? 37 If anyone thinks that he is a prophet, or spiritual, he should acknowledge that the things I am writing to you are a command of the Lord. 38 If anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.

and

1 Timothy 2:11-15

11 Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.

The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God and we cannot just throw these passages out of the Bible.
